The Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatrehas been at the center of the Salt Lake arts community since 1913. Its rich architectural features and more than 100 years of exceptional theatre, dance, opera, music, vaudeville and film performances have made the Capitol Theatre a treasured historic landmark. Restoration of the theatre in 2012 included a new layout to improve sightlines. The seating was also completely restored and this work included:
- Refinishing the cast-iron standards
- Replacing the seat-lift mechanisms
- New seat foam and fabric
- Adding noise control pads to the seats
- The manufacture and installation of new backs shaped like the existing ones
- Stripping and refinishing of existing center armrests
- Manufacturing new wider aisle armrests shaped like the existing arms so they could accommodate concealed aisle lights
The result is magnificent and the Capitol Theatre should continue to provide Salt Lake City with performances for many years to come.
