The Murphy was built by the former owner of the Chicago Cubs, Charles Webb Murphy. Mr. Murphy was from Wilmington and wanted to provide the community with a world-class theatre like those found in New York or Chicago. Recent restoration activities included a change to the balcony treads to make that area more comfortable and the replacement of all the fixed seating with Rialto chairs from Irwin Seating. The seating includes a custom cast logo on the aisle standards, cupholders and concealed aisle lights. The seating is finished with black plastic and powder coating (paint), No. 24 Classic Walnut on Maple wood stain and Absecon Mills, Craze, Red Rose fabric.
